Why this is hard.
ESG becomes meaningful at the point of a decision: what you procure, who you bank with, which partnerships you accept, how you travel, how you treat the people who work for you, and what you decline. Reported in isolation from those decisions, it produces a document and no change.
We work on the social and governance dimensions with particular depth, because that is where our expertise sits and where organisations most often find that their ESG commitments and their actual practice diverge: in employment conditions, supply chains, procurement, accountability and the treatment of people in the places they operate.
For civil society organisations, we also work on a question the corporate frameworks handle poorly: what environmental and social responsibility means for an organisation whose operating model depends on international travel, short-term project funding and precarious employment.
